How it works

The calculator divides the total height by the number of steps to determine the riser height for each step. It then calculates the total horizontal run by multiplying the tread depth by the number of treads, which is one less than the number of risers. The stringer length is calculated using the Pythagorean theorem: the square root of the total height squared plus the total run squared.
