🎮 Hangman Game
Classic word guessing game - guess before time runs out!
What is this tool?
The Hangman Game is a free online version of the classic word-guessing game. Try to guess the hidden word by suggesting letters one at a time. Each wrong guess brings you closer to completing the hangman drawing. Can you guess the word before it is too late? Hangman is one of the oldest and most beloved word games, played by generations of students, families, and word enthusiasts. The game is simple to learn but endlessly challenging. A word is chosen secretly, and you see only the number of letters (shown as dashes). You guess letters one at a time. If the letter is in the word, it is revealed in the correct position(s). If not, a part of a stick figure is drawn. You have a limited number of wrong guesses (typically 6) before the figure is complete and the game is over. This version includes hundreds of words across multiple categories: Animals, Countries, Food, Science, Sports, Movies, and more. You can choose a category for themed play or let the game pick random words. The game tracks your wins and losses, and you can adjust the difficulty by choosing shorter or longer words. Everything runs locally in your browser, so you can play offline too.How it works
The game maintains a word list organized by category. When you start a new game, it randomly selects a word from the chosen category (or from all categories if random mode is selected). The word is displayed as a series of dashes, one per letter. As you guess letters, the game checks if the letter exists in the word. If it does, all occurrences of that letter are revealed in their correct positions. If not, a wrong guess counter increments and a new part of the hangman figure is drawn. The classic hangman has 6 body parts drawn in sequence: head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg. After 6 wrong guesses, the game is lost. The game uses JavaScript's Math.random() to select words and manages state through simple variables: the target word, revealed letters, wrong guess count, and guessed letter set. The keyboard interface lets you click letters or type them on your physical keyboard. The game also prevents you from guessing the same letter twice and shows which letters you have already tried. How to use

Tips & Advice
Hangman is an excellent educational tool for building vocabulary and spelling skills. The game naturally teaches letter frequency patterns — in English, the most common letters are E, T, A, O, I, N, S, H, R, so guessing these first gives you the best chance of hitting correct letters. For shorter words (3-5 letters), vowels are especially important because they narrow down possibilities quickly. For longer words, consonant clusters give more positional information. When playing with categories, use your knowledge of the topic to make educated guesses — if the category is Countries, think of regions or famous nations. The game is also a fun way for language learners to practice spelling in English or any language the words are in. For competitive play, try to guess the word with as few wrong guesses as possible.
